What is the tax system?

The US tax system is voluntary compliance — meaning taxpayers are responsible for reporting their own income accurately. The IRS enforces this through audits, penalties and collection action.

📖

Plain-English lessons

No textbook jargon. Each lesson explains one concept clearly — with examples, key terms and a callout when something trips people up.

✏️

Module tests

Every module ends with a test. Immediate feedback on each answer, with an explanation of why the right answer is right — not just a score.

🃏

Spaced-repetition flashcards

Missed a question? It goes into review — Leitner-box style. Cards come back at the right interval so the knowledge sticks long-term.

🐧

Pip hint system

Stuck on a test question? Pip gives a targeted nudge without just giving you the answer. Uses a small hint balance so you use them wisely.

🏆

Completion certificate

Finish the full course and get a printable certificate of completion. Not an EA credential — but proof you did the work.

Common questions

Is Taxr free?

The first two lessons of Module 1 are completely free — no account, no card. You get a real feel for the format before committing to anything. Unlock the full course for $39 or individual modules for $14.99.

Do I need prior tax knowledge?

None at all. Module 1 starts at the very beginning — what the IRS is, what federal income tax means, how voluntary compliance works. Every concept is explained before it's used.

Does this actually prepare me for the EA exam?

Taxr is serious exam prep aligned to the SEE exam structure. You'll still need to meet IRS requirements (PTIN etc.) and sit the actual exam — Taxr handles the knowledge side rigorously.

What is an Enrolled Agent?

An EA is a federally licensed tax practitioner with unlimited rights to represent taxpayers before the IRS. It's one of the highest US tax credentials — and unlike CPAs, it's recognised in every state.

Can I study on my phone?

Yes. Taxr is fully responsive and works well on mobile. Sign in with your Waddl3 ID and your progress syncs across every device.

What if I already know some tax?

Start with Module 1 anyway — the early lessons are short and you'll move through them quickly. From Module 2 onwards it builds fast.
